JACKSON, MI – Jackson is still working to clear numerous downed trees and power lines fallen during Wednesday’s ice storm.
Streets and sidewalks all over the city were blocked Thursday, Feb. 23, by downed trees and wires, so officials urged caution to those traveling through the area, Jackson Spokesman Aaron Dimick said.
To report a tree that is blocking a street or sidewalk within the city, call the Jackson Department of Public Works at 517-788-4170.
Since the damage is widespread, there is currently no estimated time for when everything will be cleaned up.
The city does not handle the removal of trees on private property, only trees and branches that are blocking streets, sidewalks, and parkways.
Jackson City Hall is open, but all recreation centers are closed and recreation programs canceled for Thursday, Feb. 23.

The Parks and Recreation Department is also closing all parks, trails and cemeteries until further notice. Crews have a lot of work to clear downed trees and branches from these facilities and are not currently safe for visitors, Dimick said.
More than half of Jackson County residents and businesses are still without power.

Consumers Energy is reporting 47,621 customers, or 60.9 percent of its customers in Jackson County are without power Thursday, Feb. 23, due to numerous downed lines across the county.
This number is among the nearly 650,000 across Michigan who lost power during the storm.
Restoration times throughout Jackson County varies from servicing being restored by Thursday afternoon to as long as sometime Tuesday, Feb. 28, though these times may change as many areas are still awaiting assessment from electrical crews.
